Texting and driving is arguably the most dangerous combination of actions — and it’s often proven by statistics.
A recent survey from AT&T found that 38 percent of drivers use social media while in the driver’s seat.
With enacted laws in 39 states banning the use of cell phones, texting while driving or both, the number of distracted drivers should have decreased, but the use of social media behind the wheel has spiked.
Sixty-one percent of the 2,000 Americans surveyed said they read and/or send texts while behind the wheel, while 17 percent admitted they take selfies while driving.
“Most respondents said they do these things out of habit — and claim that they can do both safely at once,” according to the article.
AT&T also found that 33 percent of people email while driving, 28 percent surf the net and 12 percent capture a video.
The survey was conducted as a part of AT&T’s “It Can Wait” campaign, which aims to highlight the dangers of distracted driving.
