Colorado woman turns to Craigslist to rent a family for her birthday

This is the story that YOU wanted to hear us talk about! It received 56 percent of the vote in our Radioactive poll!

For those of you who have frequented Craigslist, you know the posts can get pretty unusual.

Natalie Carson decided to turn to the classified ad site to search for something — not any material goods, but a family, according to ABC News.

“I am not a weirdo or anything I was just inspired by another girl that rented a family from craigslist in California for the holidays,” she wrote on the site. “I just want one day that I can feel important and special, and like I matter even if I really don’t.”

Carson, who grew up in the foster care system, was looking for a family to rent and celebrate her birthday with after she aged out at 18.

The 19-year-old said she wanted to make this birthday more memorable than any of her previous ones.

“It’s something that I’ve never really had. Of course, I’ve had birthdays, but they haven’t been good,” she said in an interview with KMGH-TV. “Usually, every birthday is really painful and hard.”

Carson spent most of her life living in Colorado’s foster care system before moving to Georgia with a family who adopted her. She soon ended up back in foster care and stayed until she turned 18, when she moved back to her home state.

“I really didn’t know anything, but I knew I was born here,” she said about moving back to Colorado.

Several families have already reached out to Carson about celebrating her big day with her, Carson said.

“I felt like having one day where it’s OK — this is about me and it’s my birthday,” she said. “I don’t have this big elaborate plan or anything, I just wanted it to be good.”
