Exercising freedom of speech is a right but also a responsibility
Give me a break.
Let’s make one thing perfectly clear. You have a right to free speech in this country. You DO NOT have a right against repercussions for the stupid things you say.
That’s right, you can be fired, suspended or reprimanded by your boss or employer for making statements that cast your company in a negative light. It happens all the time and the thought that because someone is on TV (or the radio for that matter) they are magically immune is preposterous.
And the First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States has NOTHING to do with it. The first line reads “Congress shall pass no laws …” so anything other than the Government “silencing” you is a misreading and misapplication of one of the founding principles of this nation.
Being a former boss, please let me offer some insight into how these deliberations go in corporate America. The instant you “cost” your employer more than you “make” them, it’s time to clean out your cubicle and kick rocks.
So spout off, speak your mind or preach the gospel as you understand it, just don’t expect some magical protection against the backlash. The United States of America, where you are free to say whatever you want, just like your boss is free to say “you’re fired.”
