Could divorce be contagious?

The Pew Research Center reveals that “degrees of separation” between one divorced couple may cause another couple to divorce.

And Kevin Bacon has nothing to do with it.

The new study, led by Rose McDermott of Brown University, has revealed this:

[T]he divorce of a friend or close relative dramatically increases the chances that you too will divorce.

McDermott and her team “analyzed three decades of data on marriage, divorce and remarriage collected from thousands” of Framingham, Mass. residents.

McDermott and her colleagues found that study participants were 75 percent more likely to become divorced if a friend is divorced and 33 percent more likely to end their marriage if a friend of a friend is divorced.

The study found that the “contagion of divorce” can “affec[t] friends up to two degrees removed.”
