Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio the subject of new Christmas carols

Activists are using a twist on a holiday tradition to take on Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

“We wanted to do something that would hopefully get the sheriff’s attention and appeal to his heart that’s ‘two sizes too small,'” said Robbie Sherwood with Progress Now Arizona. “But again repeats that message that what he is doing tears families apart.”

Sherwood wrote the carols in response to the sheriff’s lawsuit against President Obama’s executive order on immigration.

“We wanted to send that message with a bit of humor and a bit of Christmas spirit,” he said.

Protestors and some children sang the carols Monday outside of the Sheriff’s headquarters in downtown Phoenix.

The president’s executive action includes offering temporary legal status to approximately five million undocumented immigrants. Sheriff Arpaio claims the program will let more illegal immigrants enter the country to commit crimes.
