See each World War II fatality in an eye-opening fashion

One of the biggest dangers with fatality data surrounding tragedies is that they are typically seen as numbers, not human lives.

Neil Halloran, a data visualization and documentary filmmaker, created an animated data visualization of the deaths from World War II and revealed the amount of lives that were lost during the war in a new fashion, I09.com reported.

“The Fallen of World War II,” the 3-part, 15-minute video, explored both soldier and civilian deaths, including the Holocaust.

The video also goes on to explore World War II through the events from previous conflicts and those that followed.

While this video focuses on the tragedy of war, it ends with an uplifting message: “Sometimes it takes looking back on how horrible war once was to see the peace growing around us.”
