Police: Handcuffed Hildale teen takes police car for joyride

HILDALE, Utah (AP) — Police say a teenager in Hildale tried to escape an intoxication bust by stealing the police car and driving it while handcuffed.

KUTV-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1gj5Qt3 ) that police from Colorado City, Arizona, responded to a noise complaint in the neighboring Utah town of Hildale at 2:15 a.m. Sunday.

Police Chief Jeremiah Darger says they found a pickup truck packed three adults and three minors listening to loud music. He says they had beer, marijuana and handguns.

Police arrested two men and moved one person’s handcuffs to the front after he said he needed to use the bathroom.

Darger says the man then climbed to the front of the police car and drove off, reaching speeds of more than 120 mph.

He and one other man are being held at Purgatory correctional facility.
