Good eats: Survey ranks Tempe ninth-best foodie city in US

PHOENIX — Looking for a nice restaurant to take a date or just grab a bite with friends? Tempe’s got you covered after being ranked the ninth-best city for foodies in the U.S., according to a survey.

The top 10 list from Livability.com, placed Tempe ahead of Walnut Creek, California, to squeak it into the rankings.

The website based its rankings of U.S. cities on several key attributes, including the number of critically-acclaimed restaurants, access to healthy food and obesity rate.

Tempe rated because residents are typically more willing to try locally-owned restaurants at a higher rate than most cities and avoid chains.

Some of the Tempe restaurants highlighted in the study include Essence Bakery, Hong Kong Asian Diner and burgers from Chuckbox.
