Pitter patter: Rain in the forecast all weekend for Phoenix area

PHOENIX — It looks like the wet ways of 2015 are set to continue, as rain is in the forecast all weekend for the Phoenix area.

“A lot of areas are going to get rain out of this system and some areas may see some excessive rain and localized flooding,” Mark O’Malley with the National Weather Service said.

The rain is courtesy of Tropical Storm Dolores, which is working its way up Mexico’s Baja Coast. Meteorologists said the Phoenix area will receive the brunt of the storm on Friday afternoon.

“Probably the best time will be between about 3-5 (p.m.),” 12 News meteorologist Matt Pace said. “The first set around 3-4 (will bring) that dust and a little bit later on — probably (4-6 p.m.) — we’ll start to see the rain chances really start to increase.”

A flash flood warning is in effect from 5 p.m. Friday to 11 p.m. Saturday.

Pace said the storms will likely be hit-or-miss, with some areas only seeing a tenth of an inch of rain while others could receive up to three inches.

The storm will drop temperatures. Saturday’s predicted high is 92 degrees while Sunday is expected to top out at 96. It would be the first time in 35 days the Phoenix area did not record triple-digit highs.

The system is expected to begin moving out of the area on Monday, when highs will creep back into the low triple-digits.
