Police searching for suspect in robbery at gas station

PHOENIX — A man is still on the loose after stealing a necklace off of a woman’s person at a Circle K gas station in Phoenix.

The suspect, described as a 20-year-old black male, approximately 5-foot-8-inches tall and 140 pounds, was waiting outside the Circle K on January 19 around 9 a.m. when he grabbed the woman by her neck and stole her necklace.

According to reports, the man was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, dark pants and brown boots when he took off in a possible white Pontiac Grand Am.

Phoenix Police Sergeant Derek Elmore said the man pulled up to the gas station, located at 1814 W. Grant Ave., and appeared to be talking on a cell phone.

“A guy wearing a gray hoodie pulled-up in a White Pontiac Grand Am, got out, but did not go in,” he said.

Officials believe the man was casing the area for a victim when he spotted the 59-year-old woman walking out of the store.

Elmore said the suspect was able to grab the woman from around the neck and rip off her necklace before fleeing in his vehicle. The woman was not injured.

Police are also searching for a suspect in a vehicle robbery located near 38th Avenue and Camelback in Phoenix.

A homeowner installed a camera in his carport, which he had rolling when a thief struck on April 19, around 2 a.m.

Elmore said the suspect, described as a Hispanic male in his early 20s with tattoos on his left arm, can be seen entering the vehicle on the video.

“He enters the carport and pretty quickly and easily is able to unlock the driver’s side door,” he said.

The suspect was able to take off in the pick-up truck, but officials recovered the vehicle not long after.
