Pat’s Run ready to take over downtown Tempe streets

PHOENIX — Thousands were expected to hit the streets Saturday in Tempe during the annual Pat’s Run.

The race honors the memory of former Arizona State University and Arizona Cardinals standout Pat Tillman, who died a soldier in Afghanistan in 2004.

The run/walk covers 4.2 miles near campus and ends at Sun Devil Stadium’s 42-yard line. Tillman wore jersey No. 42 for ASU.

This is the 11th running. Walk-up registration was set to close Friday evening.

Money raised goes to Tillman’s Scholars, which provides scholarships for 60 military veterans chosen from all over the country.

The run will restrict both streets and public transportation in the downtown Tempe area.

The city said the following restrictions would be in place from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.:

• Packard Drive will be closed in both directions between Sixth Street and Rio Salado Parkway.
• Sixth Street will be closed in both directions between Rural Road and Packard Drive.
• Rio Salado Parkway will be closed in both directions between Rural Road and Mill Avenue.
• Mill Avenue northbound will be closed between Rio Salado Parkway and Washington Street/Curry Road.
• Curry Road eastbound will be closed between Mill and College avenues.
• Lakeview Drive will be closed in both directions at Curry Road.
• College Avenue will be closed southbound between Curry Road and Gilbert Drive.
• Gilbert Drive eastbound will be closed between College Avenue and Scottsdale Road.
• Scottsdale Road/Rural Road will be closed southbound between Gilbert Drive and Sixth Street.
• The Loop 202 eastbound off-ramp will be closed at Scottsdale Road.
• The Loop 202 westbound off-ramp will be restricted to northbound traffic only at Scottsdale Road.
