High-speed car chase on Phoenix freeway ends in crash, arrest

PHOENIX — A high-speed car chase on a Phoenix freeway early Thursday ended with the driver’s arrest after he crashed into a semitruck and fought with an officer.

Department of Public Safety said a passenger escaped.

Spilled fuel from the truck covered part of Interstate 17 at the crash site.

Officers had followed the car from Interstate 10 to I-17, initially intending to stop him for following a car too closely.

During the police chase, authorities said the driver clocked 100 mph. Eventually, he crashed into the semi near the Thomas Road exit.
