Report: Arizona home to four of nation’s toughest high schools

PHOENIX — Students at four Arizona high schools can reportedly hit the books with the best of them.

The Washington Post ranked the nation’s toughest high schools and Arizona had four on the list, including BASIS Oro Valley, the most challenging in the nation.

Two other BASIS schools, Chandler and Tucson North, placed second and sixth. Another Arizona school, Accelerated Elementary and Secondary, placed fifth.

The Post came up with its rankings by dividing the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate and Advanced International Certificate of Education tests given by the school by how many seniors graduated in a given year.

Overall, Texas boasted the most schools in the top 20.
