Map shows illegal immigrants that died in Arizona desert since 2001

PHOENIX — A map shows hundreds of illegal immigrants who have died in the Arizona desert since 2001.

Each marker indicates a death as reported by the Pima County Office of the Medical Examiner. Most of the people died from hyperthermia or dehydration.

Shawtaroh Granzier-Nakajimna created the map posted on SleeplessinTucson.com.

He used data spanning from 2001 to 2015 to create the map.

He only used deaths that had exact GPS coordinates, meaning the map shows a portion of the total deaths of illegal immigrants in Arizona’s desert.
