Gin-erous prize: Arizona liquor fares well at international contest

PHOENIX — An Arizona-based distillery reportedly made a big splash at an international liquor competition.

The Phoenix New Times reports Arizona Distilling Company’s Desert Dry Gin won a Double Gold medal at the prestigious San Francisco Spirits Competition.

The Tempe-made gin was part of a field of 1,580 spirits from 41 states and 66 countries. It’s Double Gold ranking put it one step away from winning the whole shebang.

The prize placed Arizona Distilling’s name next to some of the top gin-makers in the world — think along the lines of Tanqueray and Plymouth, both based in the United Kingdom.

Last year, Arizona Distilling won both bronze and silver medals in the contest.
