Michael Phelps to return from suspension at Arizona swim meet

PHOENIX — Former Olympic swimming champion Michael Phelps steps up his comeback this week in Mesa, where he will compete in five races in the Arena Pro Swim Series.

Phelps, 29, will be returning from a six-month suspension for a DUI arrest.

The most decorated Olympian of all time swam at the event last year but only entered two races.

The meet at Skyline Aquatic Center will run Wednesday through Saturday.

According to USA Swimming’s website, Phelps will swim in the 100 free, 100 fly, 100 back, 200 IM and 400 free.

Kevin Cordes, who swims for the University of Arizona and is the U.S. record holder in the 100 and 200 breaststroke, was the favorite in his events.

Other former Olympians scheduled for the meet included Ryan Lochte, Katie Ledecky, Matt Grevers, Conor Dwyer and Nick Thoman (University of Arizona).
