Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey pleased with first 90 days in office

PHOENIX — Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey described his first 90 days in office as a success, with the Legislature wrapping up its fastest session since 1968.

“We got passed what we wanted, by and large. Our No. 1 concern was fiscal responsibility — having a balanced budget and a state living within its means,” Ducey said.

The session finished in just 82 days.

Ducey pointed out that his American Civics requirement passed (high schoolers must successfully complete a civics test before graduation) and regulations were lifted from companies such as Lyft and Uber.

The governor said replacing Common Core and focusing on what Arizona standards are going to be remained a goal.

So is the creation of an Inspector General position. Lawmakers didn’t even vote on it.

“We’ll do whatever we can to aim at that. We’re going to continue to root out abuse, corruption, fraud and waste in state government. We think an Inspector General can help on that front,” Ducey said.
