Children with disabilities may have mountains to climb, figuratively, but a Scottsdale charity is helping them reach physical heights they could never fathom.

The folks over at Scottsdale-based K2 Adventure Travel are out to change that perception. The group takes disabled children to heights they could never imagine — think Mount Kilimanjaro, Machu Picchu and even the base camp of Everest.

The charity was founded in 2010 by mountain-climbing guide Kevin Cherilla and philanthropist Kristen Sandquist. The pair took 25 people, including eight blind people, to the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro in 2009. After that, Cherilla and Sandquist set out to show disabled kids the world.
