Businesses are prohibited from rewarding voters

It’s illegal to offer free stuff to people, whether they are voting or not. Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett said violation of this law classifies as a Class 2 misdemeanor.

He said one time he heard of a place offering gas…

“But usually it’s food is what we hear about, businesses or political parties trying to encourage them to drop off their ballot by promising them things like free pizza, coffee, donuts or things like that,” Bennett said.

If businesses want to encourage people to vote, they need to offer whatever service they intend to offer to everybody and not tie it to whether or not a person has voted, he said.
