Amy Van Dyken-Rouen rides bike for first time after accident

Former Olympic swimmer and Scottsdale resident Amy Van Dyken-Rouen rode a bike without assistance for the first time since the June 2014 ATV accident that left her paralyzed from the waist down.

In an Instragram video, Dyken-Rouen showed off her amazing progress in the months since her devastating accident. She bikes on her own for several seconds during physical therapy treatment on Oct. 20 at the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix.

In a Sept. 2014 interview with the “Today” show, Dyken-Rouen said she was eager to get home to Arizona. Friends of her husband revamped their Scottsdale home for wheelchair access and other adjustments.
