New art exhibit at Sky Harbor Airport celebrates Arizona industries

PHOENIX — Arizona may not have seaside beaches, but you can now travel “The 7C’s of Arizona” at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport.

It’s a new art exhibit up at the Phoenix Sky Harbor. Each ‘C,’ that drove the economy of our state, Copper, Cattle, Cotton, Citrus, Climate, Cactus and Canyons, is represented through art at Terminal Four.

“These are industries that started the state that go back to the late 19th century, and some of these industries are still very vital today,” said Gary Martelli, associate curator for Sky Harbor.

Artists reflect the community they live in, said Lennee Eller, program manager at Phoenix Sky Harbor.

“These artists have related through visual arts wonderful things like cactus paintings, working with copper materials as well as cotton fibers,” Eller said. “The climate itself the wonderful weather we have, the lovely horizons. So they have basically interpreted what we all love and what gives us great economics here in the city and the state in a beautiful and visual way.”

The Phoenix Airport Museum is one of the largest airport art museums in the United States, serving Phoenix Sky Harbor, Phoenix Deer Valley, and Phoenix Goodyear Airports. The museum includes an art collection of almost 1,000 works.
