Arizona family triples in size with the arrival of quadruplets

PHOENIX — A Tucson family has tripled in size, thanks to the safe delivery of quadruplets over the weekend at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix.

“I was just in shock. It didn’t really hit me that I was carrying four babies,” mother Alicia Alston said about her reaction when she first learned she was having quadruplets. “(My husband) about passed out.”

Little Drew, Audrey, Cass and Ava were born within a span of 60 seconds Friday morning. The proud father, Brandon Alston, said Alicia was surprisingly calm.

“She was lying on the table and, I’ll never forget, the doctor was looking and he said, ‘There’s babies everywhere.'”

The Alstons had been undergoing in vitro fertilization and said they were getting discouraged.

“We had found out that Alicia just had a little case of endometriosis, and she had a small surgery,” said Brandon.

After that, they took very well, he said.

Doctors said the Alstons should be able to head home in a couple of months.

Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center has been recognized as a national leader in multiple births, and Alston babies became the 104th set of quadruplets to be delivered there, along with around 20 sets of quintuplets and two sets of sextuplets.
