Faith in Humanity: Girl raises thousands to take terminal dad to Disneyland

A young British girl will be able to take one last trip with her father before he passes from cancer thanks to a generous community.

According to the Southport Visiter, 5-year-old Ruby Miles was heartbroken when her father, 42-year-old Damian, was told he only had months to live after a year-long battle with cancer.

After hearing the news, Ruby told Damian she wanted nothing else in the world other than to take a trip to Disneyland with her dad. Unfortunately, the family couldn’t afford the trip.

That’s when the community stepped in. The owner of a local pub set up a fundraiser and donations poured in. More than $6,000 was raised and the family was able to make the trip.

“Ruby had come downstairs one morning and said “Daddy I am taking you to Disneyland before the angels come for you.” When I gave her the tickets she said “does this mean I can take my daddy to Disneyland?” – it was overwhelming.”

The family was also treated to a princess-themed party at the pub.

Though a bit more is needed to pay off the trip in full, the fundraisers already have a plan for any extra money that rolls in: A trust fund will be established for Ruby.
