More than 200 Mexican college students taking intensive English course at UA

PHOENIX — More than 200 students from universities in Mexico started an intensive four-week English course this week at the University of Arizona.

“(At) the Center for English as a Second Language one of our largest programs is the intensive English program,” said Dr. Suzanne Panferov, director of the Center of English as a Second Language. “They study 22 hours of English instruction per week.”

The students come here on scholarships from the Mexican government, and they received student visas for their time in the U.S., Panferov said.

“They’re here — part of the 100,000 Strong Initiative. And they are the beginning of student exchange to bring students from Mexico and other countries in Latin America to the U.S.,” she said.
