Faith in Humanity: Fundraising teacher gets helping hand from karma

Sometimes when you focus on doing good for others, that kindness can be repaid tenfold.

According to the Huffington Post, Craig MacDonald has done a lot for sick children in Halifax, Nova Scotia. An elementary school teacher, he throws an annual New Year’s Eve gala to raise money. The funds go to one sick child per year and MacDonald does everything he can to make their dreams come true.

But what happens when the giver gets sick? MacDonald was diagnosed with a muscle disease in April that often has him in pain. When the community heard their benefactor was ill, they came out in force, led by MacDonald’s friend, Drew Vinson.

Vinson started his campaign a week ago, and has raised more than CA$4,600 (about $4,300) as of Tuesday morning, according to his Crowdtilt page. “It’s probably the easiest [fundraiser] I’ve even been involved with to get people behind, because everyone loves Craig so much and have been touched by so many of his events,” he told CBC.

In addition to the fundraising push, Vinson is also planning a gala along the lines of those hosted by MacDonald.
