Faith in Humanity: Man sees volunteers, community come together to rebuild Yarnell
A service tech with AmeriGas recently left a comment on The Bruce St. James Show’s Facebook page, offering an account of how the aftermath of the Yarnell Hill Fire tragedy restored some of his faith in humanity.
The man says his company’s plant serves the small town of Yarnell. Monday will mark the one-year anniversary of the 19 firefighters that died in a swift-moving wildfire near the town, which is situated among the Weaver Mountains.
The Facebook user said his company put together a large crew last July to remove destroyed and fire-damaged tanks. He said he saw great work done by several church groups in the community, including a large group from Billy Graham Ministries.
“They helped the grieving with a listening ear, and worked to bring comfort in many ways. These volunteers worked many weeks cleaning debris, and building six homes that I am aware of. These homes were built from donations to those who had no or inadequate insurance coverages,” he wrote.
He said the Peeples Valley Fire Department chief helped orchestrate the building of new homes in the fire-ravaged community.
The Facebook poster added that very few people had to stay in shelters after their homes were damaged or completely destroyed. He said neighboring towns took many of the Yarnell residents into their own homes until they got back on their feet.
