Phoenix Police sting nets 71 arrests, drugs and guns seized

PHOENIX — A Valley motel filled with criminal activity was broken up Monday thanks to Operation Hurricane.

Phoenix Police, in conjunction with several other agencies, targeted the Las Palmas Inn, a small motel near Seventh and Grand avenues.

“This operation focused on gangs, guns and drugs,” said Phoenix Police Chief Daniel Garcia. “I’m very pleased with the operation…a total of 71 felony arrests that we’re going to be taking for prosecution.”

Police also seized an assault rifle, a shot gun, several hand guns and multiple grams of heroin, meth and cocaine.

Phoenix Police Sgt. Brian Freudenthal, who supervised the multi-agency sting, said they’ve linked criminal activity at the hotel with activity all over the city.

“We made 50 arrests within a short period of time and we’re talking about a 48-room hotel,” Freudenthal said.
