People and animals often have a special connection, but one Alaskan man found out just how special that was when his dog saved his life.

According to the Huffington Post, 52-year-old Otis Orth was driving his snowmobile near Trapper Creek, Ala. when he hit a dip and flipped the vehicle. He was thrown into a snowbank and was unable to get out.

Orth and his dog, Amber, spent the night snuggling for warmth. The next morning, Amber was able to get the attention of two passing men, who called authorities.

Orth sustained injuries to his neck and arms and may lose a few toes to frostbite, but he’s alive.

“I owe that dog my life,” he told the outlet from his hospital bed. “If I had stayed out there one more night I wouldn’t have made it.”

It just goes to show that a bond between a human and animal really can be amazing.
