Paul Walker’s body was laid to rest this weekend as news began to spread that his younger look-a-like brother was being asked to step in for the late star to film final scenes on Fast & Furious 7.

A source close to production told the Daily Mail that if Cody Walker, who has worked as a movie stuntman, agrees it’s only because he wants to honor his brother’s memory.

The source added, “They can shoot Cody from behind and at distance. If it’s a shot they need Paul’s face in close up, they can CGI it later on.”

Am I the only one who thinks this is a bad idea?

I understand that the Fast & Furious franchise is a multi-billion dollar industry, and that Universal has already shelled out $150 million shooting Fast & Furious 7. The problem is they’re only halfway through shooting, and Walker still had a lot of scenes left to film.

Apparently, producers don’t want to write Walker completely out of the movie and pretend like he never existed, but they also can’t give him the respectful departure he deserves because he died while in the middle of shooting key scenes. They say Cody could be a compromise.

But, that doesn’t work for me. I don’t think digitally inserting Cody’s face on Paul’s in some scenes is a way to honor his memory at all.

Universal could file an insurance claim, scrap the film, and start from scratch. They could also have Walker die early in the film in some heroic manner that’s discussed as opposed to seen.

The fact is Walker died in an explosive car crash. It was an accident and extremely tragic. I may be in the minority, but I don’t want to see a movie filled with car chases and crashes starring Paul Walker. It just hits too close to home knowing how he died in real life.
