Put down the junk food and eat better

There’s a popular image floating around social media right now that calls bacon the “Duct Tape of Food.” If you do an internet search for bacon infused (insert whatever you can think of here), you can find anything from beer to cologne. While I’m a huge fan of bacon—and many other foods I shouldn’t be eating excessively—in any form, the reality is we need to limit how much we eat foods like this.

We are all guilty of eating what is considered bad food, like fast food, chips, soda and food fried in its own fat. If we want to reduce our risk of obesity and heart disease we need to make some smarter choices about the foods we are eat. This is by no means an attack ad for our beloved bacon and I’m not saying we need to cut all bad food out of our diets completely, but we do need to limit the bad foods and eat a more balanced diet. You don’t have to eat rabbit food to eat healthy. Too often we think we have to cut out all the foods we like, and we know that’s not going to happen.

We should eat more whole grains, more fruits and vegetables and drink more water. A great way to do this is to cook meals at home rather than picking up fast food or eating out all the time. When you cook at home you will have more control over the ingredients you use and can make much healthier meals.

And if you just searched for bacon cologne and are about to push “buy,” please stop. Nobody wants you to smell like that.
