PHOENIX – It’s a busy time of day in downtown Phoenix. Offices are closing, and workers are trying to make their way home.

It’s just after 5:30 p.m. on Monday, May 24th.

A 27-year-old man is walking near 7th Street and Virginia. He’s heading back to his office after cashing his paycheck, when a guy comes up to him armed with a gun.

Phoenix Police Sergeant Darren Burch said the man initially complied with the gunman’s requests.

“But then a fight ensued and the suspect shot the victim multiple times in the leg,” Burch said.

“And not only does the suspect shoot the victim multiple times in the legs, but then he starts shooting at the bystanders in the area,” Burch said. “So we’re lucky that only one person was injured. We really need to get this person off the streets.”

Witnesses saw the guy take off in a dark blue or black sedan, possibly an Acura.

Burch said the car has a spoiler and chrome rims. The car also has “front end damage on the passenger side front bumper.”

Nearby surveillance cameras got some really good pictures of the getaway car. The only description we have of the suspect is that he’s Hispanic.
