Woman: Mesa gunman ran out of ammo when he tried to kill my sister

PHOENIX — A man who killed one person and injured several others would have added another victim to his list Wednesday had he had not run out of bullets.

Tanya Ehrig said the killer turned the gun on her sister after he killed a man and wounded another woman.

“Thank god there was no bullet in there,” she told KTAR News’ Mac & Gaydos.

Ehrig said her sister lived at the Tri-City Inn Motel near Main Street and Alma School Road, the first scene of multiple shootings.

Ehrig said she arrived on the scene about 15 to 20 minutes after the gunman left the area and has no idea what fueled the shooting.

“My sister said she doesn’t even know (the suspect),” she said.

Ehrig said she had known the slain man since 2003. He had been dating her sister for six months and was a maintenance worker at the hotel.
