No injuries after fire breaks out at Florence prison

FLORENCE, Ariz. — Authorities say no one was injured when a fire erupted at a prison in Florence.

The fire broke out Saturday afternoon at the private prison facility.

Corrections Corporation of America, which operates the prison, says the blaze started in a laundry room dryer.

The company says flames went up a vent and then jumped to the roof. Plastic material on the roof led to plumes of black smoke being visible miles away.

Officials say indoor sprinklers put out the fire while firefighters doused outside flames.

They say one housing unit had to be moved to another area of the prison.
