Faith in Humanity: Valley teen awarded for anti-bullying work

A Phoenix-area teenager has been recognized for his efforts to stop bullying.

Matthew Kaplan, 18, received the Diller Teen Tikkun Olam Award for creating The Be ONE Project which works with middle school students to create a more welcoming environment for all. It also shows bullies the pain they cause.

Kaplan said the bullying of his younger brother inspired him to create the project, which is now an official non-profit working in four states.

In addition to the award from the Helen Diller Family Foundation, Kaplan will receive $36,000 to either further his foundation or education.
