Sun Devil Stadium renovations to focus on fan comfort

PHOENIX — Some renovations to Sun Devil Stadium geared toward fan comfort will be completed as soon as this upcoming football season, according to ASU.

The upgrades are expected to be completed by Sept. 1, almost two weeks before the Sun Devils’ home opener.

Among the changes is the debut of an upgraded student section called the “Double Inferno.” The school removed steel bleachers and replaced them with risers and permanent stadium seating.

Cellular and wireless capabilities will also be boosted to make it easier for fans to connect to the Internet during the game.

The size of the restrooms in the venue will be doubled and the point of sale concession options significantly increased to eliminate long lines.

Construction will also add elevators to the stadium to give fans with disabilities access to a new deck in the south Inferno section.

The $256 million renovation, started last year, will modernize the venue and be completed in three phases so the football team can continue to play in the stadium during football season, according to ASU.

All three phases of renovation are estimated to be completed in fall 2017.
