Standoff ends with suspect being shot and killed by Phoenix police

A Phoenix police officer shot and killed a 46-year-old man early Saturday morning after he barricaded himself inside his ex-girlfriend’s house.

The suspect was identified as Kevin Thomas Snyder.

According to a press release from Phoenix police, officers responded to an audible burglary alarm at a residence in the 4200 block of West Morten Avenue.

There, police found a 50-year-old woman yelling for help and yelling that her boyfriend had a gun and is going to kill her.

Police said as the woman came to the door, an officer was able to pull her out and then ordered the man to exit the home without the gun.

When the suspect did not comply, police said other units were called including an air unit, canine unit and a SWAT team.

Police said the SWAT team began a search of the residence and a canine was able to locate the suspect hiding in a neighbors storage shed. After police commanded the suspect to surrender, a canine was released — biting him. The canine’s handler then attempted to enter the storage room, at which time the suspect pointed the gun at the officer and the officer returned fire — killing him.

According to police, the suspect was wanted for a felony arrest warrant for a probation violation regarding an aggravated assault.

Police said no officers were injured. Police did not identify the suspect or the officer involved in the shooting.
