650-acre fire northeast of Phoenix 50 percent contained

PHOENIX — A 650-acre fire burning northeast of the Phoenix area is 50 percent contained Saturday, the U.S. Forest Service said.

On Friday morning, the fire was 10 percent contained.

The Camp Fire was first reported about noon on Thursday, about five miles northeast of the town of Cave Creek. It is burning in the footprint of the 2005 Cave Creek Complex Fire.

Two engines and one hotshot crew are battling the blaze, which is showing low to moderate growth potential.

Public access to the area is still open and no homes or structures are threatened.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
