Faith in Humanity: Homeless man returns purse to mom with cancer

A courteous homeless man proved everyone can be a hero.

After finding a purse on a park bench, a homeless man in his late 30s debated what to do. While he could certainly use the money, the man decided to do the right thing, according to TODAY.com.

Using a cellphone with prepaid minutes given to him by the Hearts for Homeless shelter in State College, Pennsylvania, the man texted the assistant director that he had found a purse with $400 and an electronic benefits card used for food stamps.

It turns out the owner of the bag was a single mother in her 20s with recurrent brain cancer. She had gone to the park to relax from the stress.

The director Ashton Munoz and homeless man personally delivered the purse back to the grateful woman.

She told a reporter for WJAC-TV 6 in Johnstown that she felt her entire life was in the purse and she was glad to have it back.

Munoz told Reuters that thanks to the man’s good deed, the shelter has moved the man into a transitional apartment. He had been struggling to get his live back on track and had been living on the street.
