Dust storms turn Mars sunsets a shade of blue

There is such a thing as a blue sunset.

Here on Earth we usually see shades of red, yellow and orange, but on Mars there is a tinge of blue. The blue color comes from dust storms, and NASA’s Curiosity rover recently captured the beautiful scene, reports The Verge.

“When the blue light scatters off the dust, it stays closer to the direction of the sun than light of other colors does,” said Curiosity member Mark Lemmon in a statement. “The rest of the sky is yellow to orange, as yellow and red light scatter all over the sky instead of being absorbed or staying close to the sun.”
