9 money-wasters that could cost you $5,000 every year

This is the story that YOU wanted to hear us talk about! It received 46 percent of the vote in our Radioactive poll!

If you’re like most of the world, you want to save money where you can.

But these nine money-wasters could cost you big-time, according to ABC15 News:

Too many phone lines

Some people pay for more than one phone line, and that could cost them up to $500 extra a year! If you have a cell phone, why use a land line?

More cable than necessary

You can save $20 per month — maybe more — on extra cable channels. Do you really need five cooking shows on at once?

Too much dining out

Speaking of cooking, learn to do it (using one channel, of course). Many people spend up to $2,000 a year on unnecessary food, mostly when they don’t feel like cooking their own.

Stay in for lunch

Alongside that, stay in for lunch! It’s nice to treat yoursefl every once in awhile, but the biggest wasters of money are meal purchases.

ATM and overdraft fees

Okay, it’s not that hard in today’s digital world to keep tabs on your tabs. Avoid those fees!

Impulse shop no more

Some people are compulsive shoppers, and those people often find themselves spending all their money in a single trip to the mall.

For the average person, impulse buys can cost up $1,000 per year.

Unused gym memberships

While you’re busy cooking for yourself and saving money, go ahead and use that gym membership, too! Many people stop going after just a few weeks, and tell themselves “they’ll start going again,” — when they know deep down, they won’t.

Either use it up, or don’t buy it at all — many people save up to $500 a year!

Coffee, coffee, coffee

Getting your daily coffee is fine, but some places overcharge for the fancier lattes. Iced coffee averages around $2 for a large cup, and does the job just as well.

Beer, etc.

Expensive beer and cigarettes can cost some people $2,000 per year or more. If you smoke, that’s thousands more right into your pocket!

Cut back, and save. If you manage to fix even one of these “most common money-wasters,” you could save hundreds, if not thousands of dollars each year.
