San Diego Padres, Seattle Mariners to play spring training game for charity

PHOENIX — When the 2015 spring training season opens Wednesday in Peoria, some local charities will reap the benefits.

Nearly all of the proceeds from the game between the San Diego Padres and Seattle Mariners will go to a good cause.

“It’s our one day where we get to sell sponsorships and groups and raise as much money as we can for the Peoria Diamond Club, which supports youth charities and organizations in the West Valley,” Peoria Diamond Club Executive Director Bridget Binsbacher said.

Binsbacher expects about 6,500 people to attend the game and about $100,000 to be raised.

The Peoria Diamond Club was established in 1993 in partnership with Peoria, the Padres and the Mariners. The club provides volunteers to help with spring training.
