She said: Breadfruit Rum Bar is a great taste of the Caribbean

Located in downtown Phoenix, The Breadfruit gives off a friendly warm vibe as you walk up.

The main entrance brings you into the bar which is quaint but comfortable. The bartender greeted us with a friendly hello as we made our way to the host. We didn’t have to wait more than a few minutes for our reserved table and were led into the dining room.

Less than a dozen tables make up the cozy dining area, the one wall of windows gives the space a roomier feeling. The wait staff is very personable and exhibit quite a bit of pride when explaining the specials of the night and recommendations.

Of course, we had to start with some rum cocktails and the Admiral’s Punch was a delicious choice. The aroma of rosemary and rum were tickling my sense of smell as the waiter placed it on the table. Overall, this drink was delicious and refreshing.

We decided to start with two appetizers: The Plantain Avocado Rolls and the Shrimp Prawns. The rolls were crisp on the outside with a creamy and smooth interior. The combo of the plantain and avocado screams tropical fare and was accompanied with a mango salsa (with or without the salsa was delicious, depends if you wanted to add touch of sweet to your bite.) The shrimp prawns were delightful. The huge prawns were smoky and spicy sitting atop a crisp cracker. I liked it so much I fought for the last one on the plate!

For dinner I ordered the Jerk Pork and Polenta. The pork so tender and pulled to perfection. Each bite exposed the complex layers of the smoky islands spices as the creamy polenta was the perfect starchy combination, balancing out the spice.

Just when we thought we had filled our bellies enough, the waiter mentioned the Sweet Potato Bread Pudd’n. It was more of a pie consistency with hints of sweet potato, raisins and topped with toasted coconut.

This dessert wasn’t too sweet but a tasty blend of comfort flavors ending this Caribbean meal perfectly.
