Woman calls 911 to order pizza, report domestic abuse

This is the story that YOU wanted to hear us talk about! It received 57 percent of the vote in our Radioactive poll!

You’ve probably seen this in a move: Somebody makes a call for help and talks in code while being held at gunpoint.

As revealed in an AskReddit thread, one woman was put in a very similar situation, and it took the police dispatcher a little while to figure out she was in danger.

Reddit user Crux1836 actually recounted the 911 call five months ago, giving no indication when the situation actually happened, but the story has just recently gone viral. E! Online says the Reddit user was later identified as former police dispatcher Keith Weisinger.

Weisinger was working a 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. graveyard shift one night when he received a call that went like this:

“911, where is you emergency?”
“123 Main St.”
“Ok, what’s going on there?”
“I’d like to order a pizza for delivery.” (oh great, another prank call).
“Ma’am, you’ve reached 911″
“Yeah, I know. Can I have a large with half pepperoni, half mushroom and peppers?”
“Ummm…. I’m sorry, you know you’ve called 911 right?”
“Yeah, do you know how long it will be?”
“Ok, Ma’am, is everything ok over there? do you have an emergency?”
“Yes, I do.”
“..And you can’t talk about it because there’s someone in the room with you?” (moment of realization)
“Yes, that’s correct. Do you know how long it will be?”
“I have an officer about a mile from your location. Are there any weapons in your house?”
“Nope.”
“Can you stay on the phone with me?”
“Nope. See you soon, thanks”

On Reddit, Weisinger added that he checked the history at the address and found several previous domestic violence-related calls. Weisinger said an officer arrived and found the woman was “kind of banged up” and the boyfriend was drunk. The man was soon arrested.

The boyfriend may have not been caught in the act had the woman not figured out a creative way to call for help.

The former dispatcher concluded:

I thought she was pretty clever to use that trick. Definitely one of the most memorable calls.
