Four Peaks hosting pumpkin-carving contest, debuting new beer

PHOENIX — Four Peaks Brewery will hold its 16th annual pumpkin carving contest Tuesday.

Yes, the prizes include beer.

Four Peaks General Manager Steve Lynch said the brewery will also debut their new double pumpkin beer, which has a different taste than your typical pumpkin beers.

“You go online and there are hundreds of ales and stouts and porters and all kinds of pumpkin, so we’re trying to switch it up this year,” he said. “I tasted it Monday night, it’s going to be a lot of fun. It’s going to be a hit.”

That beer will only be available Tuesday night at the taproom location at 5101 S. Wilson Street in Tempe. It will then be available Wednesday around lunch time at the two other Four Peaks locations, but there’s a limited supply and it’s expected to run out quick.

The carving contest will have three winners: One for best overall, one for best Four Peaks theme and one for most creative.

“We’ll be giving away certificates for lots of free beer, swag, and other merchandise,” Lynch said. “We’ll also be giving away a keg of our pumpkin porter, which will be the grand prize that someone will end up going home with.”

Anyone who wants to participate can bring a carved pumpkin to the Four Peaks Taproom. The contest starts at 6:00 pm and winners will be announced at around 8:15 pm.
