PHOENIX — The Duce restaurant in Phoenix has made the list of Food Network’s best mac and cheese on the road.

The popular Valley eatery has been visited by the Food Network several times. Guy Fieri of “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” fame was apparently astounded over the restaurant’s mac and cheese muffins, according to the On The Road Eats: Mac and Cheese list.

Food Network traveled the country, rounding up the top restaurants that serve the creamiest, cheesiest dishes of macaroni and cheese. Besides Phoenix, a few other cities that made the list were Boston, Los Angeles, Seattle and Portland. Fifteen eateries in all received kudos for their mac and cheese creations, from mac-and-cheese casseroles to lobster mac and cheese to the Duce’s unique mac-and-cheese muffins.

Guy compared the dish to “culinary Christmas” and claimed that they’re worth an extra week at the gym. Good thing that gym is right next door, since you’ll be spending a good deal of time at this underground scene with its hand-held spin on classic mac.

Take Food Network’s word for it and try the cheesy muffin goodness for yourself. There are 10 muffins to an order, topped with a mix of Gruyere, cheddar, Parmesan, goat cheese and panko breadcrumbs. Bon appétit!
