American’s pumpkin pandemonium continues with new Oreos

Have you noticed that Americans are obsessed with pumpkin?

I actually got an email in my inbox at work announcing that the new limited edition Pumpkin Spice Oreos will be on store shelves on Sept. 24 and in our office on Sept. 26. Hey, we’re a news station so it’s our duty to do a taste test right?

Truth be told, I hate pumpkin. I don’t eat pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving, I’ve never been a fan of pumpkin bread and I certainly don’t run to Starbucks in the fall to get a Pumpkin Spice Latte.

But I’m definitely in the minority.

This time of year, you’ll find pumpkin in everything, from pumpkin spice Pringles, to pumpkin flavored beer and Pumpkin M&Ms. And, as I mentioned, you’ll soon find Pumpkin Spiced Oreos in stores.

The cookies feature Oreo’s golden vanilla cookies filled with a very sweet, bright orange crème that has a cinnamon flavor with a bit of nutmeg. Honestly, I can’t think of a reason to tamper with something as deliciously iconic as the original Oreo. But hey, that’s just me.

So do these new Pumpkin Spice Oreos live up to the hype?

Here are some reviews from editors at the Huffington Post.

They taste more gingerbready than pumpkin piey, but I’m OK with that,” one editor said. “The smell was way stronger than the taste,” said another. “It’s not too sweet, and the pumpkin flavors are mild, not overpowering at all.”

Another reviewer said that although the cookies taste good, they smell like a cinnamon candle. That doesn’t sound very appetizing.

But if you’re a pumpkin spice fan, a lover of all things Oreo or have a serious craving for some fall flavor, you’ll probably want to add these to your shopping list.
